History

Schilda was first documented in 1300. The place was at that time from December 1300 to 1335 in the possession of the de Ileburg. In 1335 they sold the village to the monastery Dobrilugk and Schilda was occupied by German settlers. Until 1541 it remained in possession of the monastery. 1335 started from the monastery a productive viticulture and wine operation. At the former presence of another vineyard still remembers the " basement house" on the road from Schilda after Langennaundorf. In the following period the wine plantations fell away and disappeared in the 19th century entirely.

The Schildaer church was built in 1450. According to art historical information, it is a medieval building with a rectangular plan. The walls are built of granite boulders and bog iron. The almost square tower was added later. Even if the place is hardly likely to be the historical Schilda, reveal ancient traditions of the particular way of life of the people. So it is said that she gave up the useless expenditure of windows on the north side of the church. In 1800, the bog iron brought a little extra income. He was delivered into the iron work Lauchhammer. In April 1856 located south of the church of the village burned down completely.

In the territory of the commune existed in earlier times, a total of three brickyards. The brick-making was operated very labor-intensive in the past centuries. Based on the population growth from 1900 to 1910 we see that the lignite industry for many residents, the main source of income was. A heyday of the coal industry again after 1945. From the lignite mine was later an operation of agricultural machinery manufacturing. A big break in employment brought about political change in 1989. Even the seemingly unusual lack of windows in the north side of Schildaer church should not constitute sufficient proof of the sign bourgeoisie in Schilda.
