Schizophrenia is the second studio album of the Brazilian metal band Sepultura. It was brought out on LP in 1987 from the record label Cogumelo Records in Brazil.

Music direction

The guitarist Andreas Kisser said he had " some new influences introduced in joining Sepultura in 1987 - traditional heavy metal and a bit more melodic style. It was an immediate spiritual meeting. We understood where everyone came musically and could not find a way how we could combine all our influences so that the music worked " (" ... Brought in some new Influences -. . Reception

At the time of publication the band had as its predecessor Morbid Visions sometimes harsh criticism of European metal press, including the magazine skirt insert hardware. Was criticized, among other things the "bad sound " of the plate.

Eduardo Rivadavia of Allmusic gave the album 4 out of 5 stars and praised the fact that Sepultura was introduced on the album Schizophrenia " a completely new sound " of thrash metal and death metal combined ( " Introduced at Entirely new sound fusing thrash and death metal" ). Insurrection of Sputnik Music rated the album as much cultivated ( "much more polished " ) than the debut album.

The album spawned Sepultura breakthrough. 10,000 albums were sold in Brazil and Sepultura could play concerts in front of 2,000 fans per night. The LP sold worldwide. This meant that the group in 1988 was able to conclude a contract with the New York record label Roadrunner Records.
