Schjetman Reef

The Schjetman Reef is an island that has been repeatedly sighted in the Pacific Ocean, but whose existence is considered to be unlikely (phantom island).

The first sighting took place on October 19, 1868 by Captain Ole Andreas Schjetman by the Norwegian ship Anna below 16 ° 8 ' N and 178 ° 58 ' W. He reported that the island was about 3 km long and 1 km wide. Later attempts to recover the island, failed mostly. 1990 reported a sailor from Hawaii a sighting that could not be repeated in 2006 during an expedition.
