Schlenkerla

The Schlenkerla (formerly " The Blue Lion", this name can still be found in the coat of arms; brewer also Heller) is a famous historical brewery restaurant in the Upper Franconian town of Bamberg.

The Schlenkerla Rauchbier is mainly for his Schlenkerla, a smoked beer, the smoke flavor is reminiscent of smoked ham, internationally known. The Schlenkerla smoked beer is a very dark, bottom fermented beer in March with 13.5% original wort and an alcohol content of about 5.1%. History

The Schlenkerla was first mentioned in 1405. It is located in the oldest settlement area of ​​the city below the Bamberg Cathedral. The historic building is worth seeing because of the Dominican hermitage with a Gothic vault from the 14th century and the Franconian half-timbered facade.

The name Schlenkerla allegedly goes to a former host back, according to the legend while running due to an accident (he ran over a horse and cart and broke his hip) with the arms " dangling ". His resulting Frankish nickname " Schlenkerla " was transmitted over time to the restaurant.
