Schliersee (lake)

Schliersee is a lake in the Bavarian Alps.

Geography

Schliersee is located about 50 kilometers south-east of Munich, between Tegernsee and the Inn Valley, close to the Austrian border in the Bavarian Alps. It lies at an altitude of 777 m. ü. Sea level and has an area of 2.22 km ². The lake has an average depth of 23.9 meters and a maximum of 40.5 meters. Its catchment area measures 27.15 km ² in area. In the lake there is the 2.4 -acre, built with a guest house Insel Wörth. From the northwest, the Freudenberg peninsula extending into the lake. The lake is owned by the Free State of Bavaria, for its management, the Bavarian Administration of State-owned Palaces, Gardens and Lakes is responsible.

Geologically speaking, is the northern part of the lake in the flysch zone, the southern in the northern Kalkalpenzug.

Ecology

The Schliersee was a long time in ecologically questionable state, since it was completed in spite of a ring drains, the mid-70s of the 20th century, was still eutrophic. The strong growth of Burgundy blood, a type of blue-green algae, the water made ​​it look blood red. Soon it was realized that the wind-protected location and the long ice cover inhibited the natural circulation of the water in the spring.

Sport and Leisure
