Schloss Neuwaldegg

Castle Neuwaldegg has a castle with English gardens in the 17th district of Vienna Hernals.

History

It was built in 1697 by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach for the Count Theodor of Strattmann († 1693) and therefore was originally called the Garden Palace Strattmann.

It was in 1765 by Franz Moritz Graf Lacy, Field Marshal of the Regent Maria Theresa and Emperor Joseph II consultant, bought. The baroque garden is laid out in terraces and has a Zwergerlgalerie.

1801 reached the palace and park in the possession of the Schwarzenberg family. In 1951 the castle was owned by the Archdiocese of Vienna. 1978-1986 were made adaptations in the interior of the castle for use as an education center and in 1985 the municipality bought the Vienna Black Mountain Park as a recreational area. In 2002, the Foundation 's Educational Initiative for Central and Eastern Europe took over the castle and allowed the re- use of the castle with its baroque garden for all kinds of events from 2010 to 2013 the castle was the site of the Franz Schubert Conservatory.
