Schlosstheater Celle

The Palace Theatre is a Celle in the years 1670 to 1674 /75 initiative of the opera lover Georg Wilhelm ( 1624-1705 ), Prince of Lüneburg from the House of Brunswick and Lüneburg, arisen in the course of renewal and Baroque style of Celle Castle Court Theatre. After a heyday in the 18th century with a fixed ensemble performances went back more and more until the neglected house in 1890 the operation of gambling completely stopped. In 1935 it was extensively renovated and revitalized. The baroque theater with horseshoe-shaped auditorium in the Italian style is one of Europe's oldest theaters.

The auditorium offers in the stalls and in the two tiers, the second of which was added later in the 18th century, a total of 330 seats.

Attached to the Palace Theatre Celle is a Malersaal called studio stage with 40 seats.

With the end of the season 2009/2010 the theater moved in the summer of 2010 in a transitional home in the " residence hall of the Castle Theatre ", which is on the site of the former Cambridge Dragoons Barracks. During this time, theater and castle wings were rebuilt to stop sagging of the building fabric. The interior should be original inspired by the Baroque, changing elements from the last major renovation in 1935 fell away. Since opening premiere on October 12, 2012 will be played back at a historical site in the castle of Celle.

1998-2008 Karin H. Veit was artistic director of the house. Since March 2008, the Palace Theatre is led by Dr. Bettina Wilts, she's since August 1, 2009 artistic director of the theater.
