Castle Wil

Schlosswil is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. By the end of 1902, the community officially Wyl respectively Wil was called.

Geography

Schlosswil is located on 753 m above sea level. M., 3.5 km north and 13 km east-southeast of Konolfingen the cantonal capital of Bern (air line). The village is located on the back of a lateral moraine of the glacial Aaregletschers, a scenic location on the east elevation of the Aare valley.

The area of ​​3.5 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the hill country east of the Aare Valley between Bern and Thun. The main part of the territory occupied by the formerly marshy lowlands of Talimooses ( 735 m above sea level. M. ) and the Gwattmooses which are completed by the bolt of the lateral moraine of the Aar valley. On the eastern edge of the Talimooses rises the Gwattberg. To the south of the municipality floor extends to the back of the Hürnbergs forest, on the with 910 m above sea level. M. the highest point of Schlosswil is achieved. The smaller western part of the municipality is located in a valley in the headwaters of the Richigenbaches, a source stream of Worblen. From the municipality surface 1997 8 % were settlements, 21 % of forest and woody plants and 71% to agriculture.

To Schlosswil include the hamlet Thali (757 m above sea level. M. ) on the southern edge of the Talimooses and at the foot of Hürnbergs, part of the housing development Nest ( 760 m above sea level. M. ) on the southwestern slope of the Gwattbergs, the farm groups Weier Guet ​​( 746 m above sea level. M. ) on a hill in Talimoos and Sagi (680 m above sea level. M. ) in the valley of Rohrmis as well as some individual farms. Neighboring communities of Schlosswil are Worb, Biglen, Grosshöchstetten, Konolfingen and Münsingen.

History

The territory of Schlosswil was inhabited very early. Some wall remains, various artifacts and tombs suggest a Roman settlement, possibly a military base, on the Roman road from the Aare valley towards the Emmental.

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1146 under the name Wilare. Later, the names Wilere ( 1239 ) published, Wiler ( 1242 ) and Wyle ( 1345 ). The place name is derived from the Old High German word wilari (small village, hamlet, single farmstead ).

Since its first occurrence was the former center of Wil Wil rule. After the family of the Barons had died of Wiler at the beginning of the 14th century, the rule was divided into two parts. One part went over to the Senn family of Münsingen, the other Berner to a noble family by marriage. The sovereignty over the territory had initially served the Counts of Kyburg, since 1406 the city of Bern. The Court of Justice Konolfingen high justice was exercised. In 1508, both parts of the former reign were reunited. In addition to Wil included the rule also Grosshöchstetten, Gysenstein and Oberhünigen. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798 ) belonged Schlosswil during the Helvetic Republic to the district Höchstetten and from 1803 to Oberamt Konolfingen, which was given the status of an office district with the new cantonal constitution of 1831.

Since the 19th century the municipality Wil included the actual village with the castle and an exclave of the far located in the southeast side of the Chisetals Oberhünigen. Effective on January 1, 1903, the community name to help distinguish from other communities of the same name in Schlosswil was changed. The exclave Oberhünigen was separated on 1 January 1980 by Schlosswil and declared an independent municipality.

Population

With 632 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Schlosswil one of the smaller municipalities in the canton of Bern. Of the residents 97.4 % are German, 1.1 % speak Serbo-Croatian and 0.5 % French ( as of 2000). The population of Schlosswil amounted in 1980 to 565 inhabitants. Since then, a significant population increase was recorded.

Policy

The voting shares of the parties at the national elections of 2011 were: SVP 32.0%, 21.3% BDP, SP 13.0 %, 9.2%, GPS, FDP 7.9%, 5.9%, glp, EDU 2.9 %, EPP 2.4%, CVP 1.8%.

Economy

Schlosswil was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the agriculture, dairy farming and livestock have an important place in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available, including companies in the electrical industry, of wood construction and horticulture. Also stationed in the castle district administration is an important employer in the village. In recent decades, the village has developed thanks to its attractive location into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the larger towns in the area and the agglomeration of Bern.

Traffic

The community is a very good transport developed. It lies at a distance of 1 km from the main road from Bern to Langnau in the Emmental. The nearest links to the motorway A6 ( Bern- Thun) is located 9 km away from the town center. By Postbus course which operates direct flight from Worb to Grosshöchstetten, Schlosswil is connected to the public transport network.

Attractions

On the moraine the Wil castle stands with its highly visible keep from the 12th century. It now houses the administrative management of the office district Konolfingen. The parish church of Schlosswil was probably founded in the early 13th century by the barons of Wiler. In the 17th century the church was remodeled. It has significant coats of arms and grinding wheels from around the mid-18th century. The late Gothic rectory was built in 1548 and rebuilt in the 18th century. In the village are characteristic farmhouses from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved.
