History

The 63.5 m high dam was built in 1929-1932. To build this gravity dam made of concrete with a high specific gravity of the natural lake had to be first lowered to 13 meters. To do this, in 1930 a tunnel blasted into the rock. It was found also a dugout, through the investigation could prove now that Schluchseewerk has already traveled around the year 650. The find was first stored in the Augustiner Museum in Freiburg and in Adelhausermuseum ( Ethnological Museum ) and can now be seen in the National Archaeological Museum in Konstanz -Peterhausen.

On the south side of the valley above the boat dock was built during the construction work in the quarry granite for the intake structure from.

Nationwide famous Schluchseewerk was under the name " Schlucksee " because the German national football team in 1982 there opened their training camp and individual players the freedoms that made them national coach Jupp, outfitted, heartily exploited. Alcohol, card games and other antics cast a bad light on the eventual runners.

1983 was a revision almost all the water of the lake drained, so that the usual bathing, sea fishing and sailing had to pause. The rare event still attracted many visitors; after a long time rudiments flooded, former buildings were visible again.

More recently, there has been an increase in conflicts of interest between the Schluchseewerk and the community Schluchseewerk above the water level of the lake in the summer. While the Schluchseewerk is interested in a most advantageous economic use of storage water, making a sometimes strong lowering of the lake level goes hand in hand, the church fearing a lack of tourists, when the lake in the summer deep is a long time and it frees rather unsightly riverside areas. But the partly high water level and thus hardly remaining banks provide discord among local users and tourists.

In winter 2013/2014 the water level was lowered dramatically. The drained water was needed to produce electricity because of solar power at this time of year usually less fails than usual addition could be made by the low water level controls at the dam and drain. In the district of Aha was visible again by the gain reduction, the old school house. Until Pentecost, the water level should have returned to normal height.

Icing

Since the water level of the lake fluctuates and water is supplied from deeper and thus warmer streams, it freezes very difficult to in winter. Entering the ice is prohibited. However, the flat west end sometimes freezes so much that the cover bears. Traditionally, here in the winter ice fishermen, which pierce the ice and catch fish.
