Schlumberger brothers

Conrad Schlumberger ( born October 2, 1878 in Guebwiller, Alsace, † May 9, 1936 in Stockholm) was a French geologist and geophysicist. According to him, the Schlumberger method was named.

Life

Conrad Schlumberger comes from a wealthy French family of Alsatian origin. His brother is the writer Jean Schlumberger. Conrad attended the École Polytechnique and the École Nationale Supérieure des Mines in Paris. In 1904 he took the state exam as a mining engineer. Two years later he was appointed professor of physics at the School of Mines in Saint- Étienne.

1907 Schlumberger gets a job at the École Supérieure des Mines in Paris. During the First World War he was an officer of artillery. Then he's back at the École Supérieure des Mines, where he is engaged in the applied geophysics. In 1914, he charted at Bor in Serbia pyrite body with the help of the self-potential measurement on the earth's surface. He refined his measuring apparatus and method for exploratory borehole.

1923 Conrad Schlumberger difference out of the teaching profession and devoted himself entirely to applied geophysics. Three years later he founded with his second brother Marcel Schlumberger Société de Prospection ƒlectrique, under the name of Schlumberger Limited is the world's largest oil exploration company today.
