Schmeheim

Schmeheim is a municipality in the district of Hildburghausen in Thuringia. It belongs to the administrative community Feldstein. The administrative headquarters are in the town Themar.

Geography

Neighboring towns are the municipalities of Upper City and Marisfeld also in the district Hildburghausen, Dillstädt district Schmalkalden- Meiningen, and the districts of Suhl: Wichtshausen, Dietzhausen and Mäbendorf.

History

The first mention was made in the year 914 in the 13th and 14th centuries, the Knights of Schmeheim were based here. Rule default, the location in the Official Themar first belonged to the county of Henneberg, after 1583 to various Saxon duchies and 1826-1918 of Saxe -Meiningen. In 1920 he came to Thuringia.

Culture and sights

Building

The village stands on a hill, the church of St. Nicholas. Your age is not known. In 1697 the church was rebuilt in 1836 and 1876 and extensively renovated. A redesign followed in 1911 and 1994 to 2005 a facade restoration.

Other historic buildings include a former inn with a cellar dating back to 1607, a former school built in 1894, the bakery in 1873 and the village economy house, built in 1953.

Customs and traditions

The native dialect, the dialect is Franconian hen Berg and being cared for by the older inhabitants with each other.

The move to the church festival is organized by the fair society in historical costume.

Other annual events include the Children's Festival in early June, the pond festival at the end of June and the back house party in August.
