Schmidt corrector plate

In the Schmidt plate, named after Bernhard Schmidt, is a corrective lens that is attached to the front end of the tube of a Schmidt, Schmidt- Cassegrain or Schmidt -Newton telescope.

It is used to compensate the spherical aberration of the spherical primary mirror. This is necessary because the panel assembly according to Schmidt, which maps to avoid the coma, the objects away from the optical axis distorted, is used only works with one. The aspherical lens cut, this allows the production of virtually coma- free optics combined with a large field.
