Schmirn

Schmirn is a municipality with 861 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Innsbruck Land, Tyrol ( Austria ). The municipality is located in the judicial district of Innsbruck.

Location

Schmirn is located in a side of the Wipptal. The municipal area extends from St. Jodok to the crest of the Tux Alps and extends south to the Tux Main Ridge to the 3476 m high Olperer.

The settlement area is characterized by scattered Rotten, hamlets and isolated farms, where the district Schmirn is the center of the community. The southern part of St. Jodok belongs to the municipality of Vals.

The valley is drained by the Schmirnbach which opens in St. Jodok in Vals Bach.

Neighboring communities

History

Schmirn was first mentioned in 1249 as Vallis Smurne and is since 1811 an independent municipality.

From Kasern at the end of Schmirntals the way across the Tux yoke leads to Hintertux, which belonged to the municipality Schmirn to 1926.

In 2012 Schmirn was included in the list of " Bergsteigerdörfer " of the Austrian Alpine Club.

The last mayor elections took place simultaneously with the local elections on March 14, 2010.

Vincent Eller was elected mayor. He was the only candidate.

Agriculture is characterized by small businesses and is primarily operated as a sideline, there are many commuters in the valley.

The community has about the stop St. Jodok the Brenner railway connection to the railway.
