Schmittentunnel

The Schmitt tunnel is the tunnel in Zell am See and road tunnel in the Pinzgauer road (B 311) in the Austrian province of Salzburg.

The Schmitt tunnel has a length of 5,111 meters and serves as a relief for the city passage of Zell am See, which is very crowded. The tunnel stretches from Zell am See district -south up to the north end of the urban area of ​​Zell am See. A special feature is an entry and exit in the tunnel that leads into the old town of Zell am See.

Construction on the tunnel began in 1993, on 18 July 1994 was the breakthrough. It was completed in 1996, the building cost was approximately 700 million shillings ( about 51 million euros ).
