Schneisingen (Swiss German: ʃnæisigə ) is a municipality in the district of the Swiss canton of Aargau Zurzach. It lies on the border with the Canton of Zurich and about five kilometers south of the border to Germany.

Geography

The village is located in the transition zone between the Jura mountains and the lowlands in a two -kilometer-long tributary of the Surb and consists of several districts. These are loosely grown together and give the village more like a scattered settlement. From the southeast corner of the township to the northwest, these are Hüniken ( 445 m above sea level. M. ), Unterschneisingen (460 m above sea level. M. ), Mittelschneisingen ( 493 m above sea level. M. ) and Oberschneisingen (531 m above sea level. M. ). The area west of the tributary valley consists of the gentle slope of the Egg ( 600 m above sea level. M. ), which lies between Oberschneisingen and Widen. This leads to the sprawling, flat plateau of Bowalds closes, which reaches a height of 607 meters. In the far north has Schneisingen a small part of the valley of the Chrüzlibachs which opens at Rekingen into the Rhine. The area east of the tributary valley is much steeper and climbs to 596 meters high Schüliberg, which also has a flat plateau.

History

The village name comes from the Old High German Sneisunwang and means " slope in the corridor ."
