Schnifis

Schnifis is a municipality in the district of Feldkirch in Vorarlberg Austria with 775 inhabitants (December 31, 2013).

Geography

Schnifis is located in the westernmost province of Austria, Vorarlberg, in the district of Feldkirch to 657 meters.

It is a scattered settlement on the south terrace of Schnifner mountain. 37.8 % of the area is forested, 14.8 % of the area Alps.

There are no other local villages in Schnifis.

History

Schnifis 820 was first documented as Senobium. 1362 came Schnuvis together with the rule Jagdberg to Austria.

The Habsburgs ruled the places in today's changing of Tyrol Vorarlberg and Austria from front ( Freiburg im Breisgau). From 1805 to 1814, the town belonged to Bavaria, then back to the empire of Austria.

For Austrian crown land Vorarlberg Schnifis belonged since its founding in 1861. The place was from 1945 to 1955 part of the French zone of occupation in Austria.

The proportion of foreigners at the end of 2002 was 5.1%.

Policy

The municipal council consists of 12 members, all belonging to the unit list since the early local council elections in 2012.

Until May 31, 2012, Andreas Amann Mayor of Schnifis, after whose resignation took over Vice Mayor Gerhard Rauch interim basis until the next, early municipal election into office. On September 9, 2012, the municipal council was elected, after the previous municipal council had dissolved. The new municipal council came together in sequence on September 17 to choose from among them Anton Mähr, who had received the most preferential votes in the previous election to the municipal council Schnifner mayor.

Churches and chapels

  • Parish Church of St. John the Baptist: To 830 stood in place of the present church, the ecclesia. 1535 a church was consecrated in 1817 and the nave was extended. 1972/73 was a redesign of the church.
  • Chapel at Schnifner Bad
  • The ring wall on the small plateau of mountain house like hill Kobel encloses a early medieval farmstead.
  • On Gießhübel also a clan of early medieval cemetery is found.

At the site there were in 2003 11 companies in the industrial sector with 51 employees and four apprentices. Taxable wage -employed, there were 251 Locally there is (as of January 2003) 49 students. In Schnifis there is also a kindergarten.
