Schober's test

The Schober Schober or sign -dimension (named after Paul Schober ) is a functional test of the mobility of the lumbar spine. With the patient standing a skin mark on the spinous process of S1 and 10 cm is further applied to the top ( cranial). At maximum flexion ( bending forward ) the skin brands usually differ by 5 cm apart, in retroflexion ( backward bend ) reduces the distance of 1-2 cm. A limitation of movement of the spine with reduced Beugbarkeit can be found eg in ankylosing spondylitis (Bechterew's disease ).

The test was described in 1937 by Paul Schober.
