Together with the Ankogelgroup, the Goldberg Group, the Glockner group, the Kreuzeckgruppe, the Granatspitzgruppe, the Venediger Villgratner the mountains and the Rieserfernergruppe, the Schober group is the large group of the Hohe Tauern. The Schober Group is located in Austria in the federal states of Carinthia and Tyrol. The highest peak is the Petzeck with a height of 3283 m above sea level. A.

The Schober group is located south of the Alps, in the central part of the Hohe Tauern. It is named after the mountain high Schober, 3240 m above sea level. A. In the West, the group runs the Felbertauernstraße, in the south there is Lienz, the district capital of East Tyrol and in the east runs the southern entrance to the famous Grossglockner High Alpine Road.

The Schober group - at least for climbers and tourists north of the Alps - in the shadow of the more famous neighboring groups ( Grossglockner, GROßVENEDIGER ). The Schober group is part of the National Park Hohe Tauern. Carinthia brought 1981, the Schober group together with the Glockner group than the first two groups of mountains in the national park one.
