Schoeps

Sound Technology Dr. -Ing. Schoeps GmbH, short Schoeps, is a leading German manufacturer of high quality microphones for professional use. Characteristic of the company are condenser microphones small design and digital microphones. Schoeps microphones are used because of their tonal neutrality in film, radio and television and recording classical music used in documentary footage.

History

The company was founded in June 1948 in Karlsruhe- Durlach Karl Schoeps, chief engineer was Dr. Wilhelm Kusters. Finally, in 1956 the company was registered in the Commercial Register, in 1978 the name was changed to GmbH to. The end of 1993 Dr. Schoeps died, his son Ulrich Schoeps took over management of the company.

Even if the first condenser microphone CMV was built 50/2 already in the first year, Schoeps dealt in the beginning mainly with calculations for cinema sound systems. At times, the company produced even tape recorders in small numbers. In the 1950s, the production of microphones became increasingly important. Because good business relations with the French radio, much of the production was exported to France. After the death of Dr. Jörg Wuttke 1971 Küsters was Technical Director and cared for innovation in microphone development. Schoeps has consolidated its position on the domestic market and expand. 1997 began the development of digital microphones. Schoeps is today a renowned medium-sized company with around 40 employees in Karlsruhe with almost exclusively manual production.

Innovations

1964 brought with the Schoeps CMT 20, the first transistorized condenser microphone with phantom power out. In 1973 out the known Colette series, a modular system in which the microphone amplifier can be separated from the capsule, so that the visible part of the microphone is significantly smaller. In 1994, Schoeps CCM Compact microphones the smallest classic microphones with balanced output before. Since 2003 special microphone sets, software and accessories for surround recordings are available.

Schoeps microphones are used by the news broadcasts daily news and today, as well as the German Bundestag and some countries parliaments. 2012, the Berlin Philharmonic has been equipped for the live stream of the Digital Concert Hall with microphones from Schoeps.
