Schortewitz

Schortewitz is a village within the town Zoerbig in the district of Anhalt- Bitterfeld, in Saxony- Anhalt. Until 28 February 2009 Schortewitz was an independent municipality in the administrative community Southern Anhalt. The former municipality encompassed 6.52 km ², on the 698 inhabitants lived (as at 31 December 2007).

Geography

Schortewitz in Fuhneniederung is located about seven kilometers from the center of the city Zoerbig away, saw large-scale between Halle ( Saale) and Köthen (Anhalt). The Fuhne forms the border with the Saalekreis.

History

The ramp box, once located on the Windmill Mountain, is the oldest evidence of human activity in the area around Schortewitz. The major, excavated in 1913 by Walter Götze, archaeological finds from the megalithic grave Heideberg are now in the Prehistoric Museum in Köthen.

Schortewitz was first mentioned in 1156 as Solowice documented.

1844 lived 266 people in Schortewitz.

Policy

On September 21, 2008 passed by the council of citizens Schortewitz hearing was conducted. As a result of this there is a clear majority in favor of the incorporation of the church in the city Zoerbig decided. The merger was approved in January 2008 by the district of Anhalt -Bitterfeld, and completed on 1 March 2009.

The last Schortewitzer council was made up of 7 women council and councilors.

The last honorary mayor Jürgen Müller was first elected on 10 June 2001.
