The Schuman railway tunnel is a railway station in the Belgian capital Brussels, which was opened in 1969. It is named after the French politician Robert Schuman. The station is located partly below the Berlaymont.

Below the station is the same Metro station where the transit traffic to the lines 1 and 5,. At the station also hold various bus lines. At the two tracks keep intercity and inter-regional trains as well as the Brussels subway.

Metro station

The Schuman metro station was opened as part of the Premetro - building at the same time as the railway station in 1969. Until 20 September 1976, the Premetro trains had there their last stop, from then on, the Premetro was replaced by the new subway.

Rebuilding

The station is currently under construction. The station will be expanded to two tracks, which are needed for the new tunnel section of railway line Josaphat Schaerbeek. The tunnel section is intended to enable a faster connection to Leuven, Antwerp and Brussels Airport. After the conversion, the station is among the largest and most important of the city.
