History

The village lies in the Bernese Seeland, between the running of the old Aare River and the Nidau- Buren - channel, about halfway between Biel / Bienne and Bueren an der Aare. From the 15th to the 19th century the then poor peasant community was regularly hit by severe flooding. The church was first mentioned in 1252 as Schwadernau owned by the Count of Nidau ​​. 1281 has handed over a portion of its rights to the Bishop of Basel, the Count.
