Schwansee

The swan lake is located in the Eastern Allgäu in Bavaria southeast of Fussen in the municipality of Schwangau near the royal castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau, and 400 meters north of the Alp lake. Since 1956 he is part of the nature reserve " Alpsee, swan lake and Faulenbacher valley ". The lake is owned by the Free State of Bavaria, for the management of which is the Bavarian Administration State-owned Palaces, Gardens and Lakes in charge.

In the 19th century the swan lake was included with the bogs, wet meadows and calcareous grasslands around in a park that belonged to the castle Hohenschwangau. This Schwanseepark was created by order of the Bavarian Royal House of Wittelsbach, designed by Peter Joseph, is now, however, partly very overgrown.

In the presence of the swan lake is used in summer as lake and in winter for ice skating - both by locals as well as tourists.
