Schwarzach is a municipality in the district of Bregenz in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg with 3827 inhabitants ( as at 31 December 2013).

Geography

Schwarzach located in the westernmost province of Austria, Vorarlberg, in the district of Bregenz south of Lake Constance to 433 meters. 29.1 % of the area is forested. There are no other local villages in Schwarzach.

Neighboring communities

The community Schwarzach is one of the municipalities of Vorarlberg with the fewest neighboring communities. Only three other communities have a common municipal boundary with Schwarzach. These are the Wolfurt and the community Bildstein in the district of Bregenz and the city of Dornbirn in Dornbirn district of the same name.

History

Schwarzach was first mentioned in 1249 as " Swarzahe ". The place belonged to the Lower Court Hofsteig.

Together with a part of the rule Bregenz was the place in 1451 in Austria. The Habsburgs ruled the areas in Vorarlberg changing of Tyrol and Further Austria from ( Freiburg im Breisgau).

From 1805 to 1814, the town belonged to Bavaria, then back to Austria. For the Austrian state of Vorarlberg Schwarzach heard since its founding in 1918.

The place was 1945 to 1955 part of the French zone of occupation in Austria.

Policy

The municipal council consists of 24 members. After the local council elections of 2010, the Austrian People's Party ( ballot initiative Manfred Flatz ) reached 12 mandates, the UWG ( Independent voters Community list Horst Fertschnig ) 9 seats, the Greens (The Greens Schwarzach ) 2 mandates and the Social Democratic Party (SPÖ and party Free Schwarzach ) 1 mandate. To the mayor was elected with 59.50 % in the Mayor direct dial Manfred Flatz by the ÖVP.

Economy and infrastructure

In 2003 there were 82 farms in the place of trade and industry with 1,454 employees and 78 apprentices. Taxable wage -employed, there were 1,529. Agriculture plays an important role. The proportion of agricultural land in the total area is 47 %.

Established businesses

In Schwarzach is an international company that Rieger Organ Builders Ltd., resident who here builds organs for churches and banquet halls in the world since 1946 and so the tradition of organ building continues in Schwarzach.

Media

In Schwarzach the Vorarlberg media house is located, the Vorarlberg with its products news New Vorarlberg daily newspaper, When & Where, Vorarlberg Online as well as the radio station Antenne Vorarlberg is the largest and most influential media company in Vorarlberg.

Traffic

Since 2009, the Bregenz Forest Road ( Federal Road 200) runs through the set up between Dornbirn and Alberschwende Achrain and has a direct connection to the motorway exit Dornbirn Nord and thus to the Rhine Valley / Walgau motorway ( A14). This new road layout relieved Schwarzach and binds the Bregenz Forest direct on to the motorway network.

Education

In the resort there are (as of January 2003) 407 students. In Schwarzach there are also two kindergartens. There is also a middle school with linguistic and technical focus.
