Schwarzer See (Granitz)

The Black Lake is a lake on the Baltic Sea island of Rügen. It belongs to the district of Sellin and is located in the forest area Granitz.

The area of ​​the lake is 23 hectares, its greatest depth of 15 meters and the height of the lake level above sea level 54.2 m above sea level. NHN. The nutrient-poor lake is one of the very rare type of water body of the so-called kettle lake.

In the border region between moorland and peat bog formation take place. To some extent there is an oscillating ceiling vegetation. Here peat moss, cotton grass, fever clover, cranberry and rosemary occur.

The complete lake, existing at the edge of Moore and a 100 -meter strip of the lake surrounding forest are designated as core zone ( total reserve ) of Rügen Biosphere Reserve. For walkers and cyclists, however, the lake is accessible via leading to Binz to Sellin hiking trail. You can get to the lake via a small wooden bridge.
