Schweickershausen

Schweickershausen is a municipality in the district of Hildburghausen in Frankish dominated the south of Thuringia. The municipality belongs to the administrative community to Heldburger lowlands. The administrative headquarters are in the town of Bad Colberg- Heldburg.

Location

Schweickershausen located in Heldburger country southwest of Bad Colberg- Heldburg in the southernmost tip of the state of Thuringia. History

The church was first mentioned in 1317 as Schwichershusin. As early as 1340 the community Schweickershausen was called. It is likely that even then there was a castle or a castle in the town. Schweickershausen 1630-1685 was affected by witch hunts. Two women and a man came in witch trials. Hans Müller was burned in 1654.

The Church of Schweickershausen was inaugurated in 1747. Before that there was a church that had been built by Martin Steward of Wetzhausen, the Grand Master of the German Order in the same place.

The present castle was built in the early 18th century, replacing a much older building.

After the division of Germany in 1945 the place of the Soviet occupation zone was assigned, after he was first occupied by Americans.
