Schweighouse-Thann

Schweighouse -Thann ( German Schweighausen ) is a commune with 716 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ), in the Alsace Haut -Rhin. It belongs to the district Thann, to Canton Cernay and is a member of the Association of Municipalities Pays de Thann.

Geography

The community is located about ten kilometers west of Mulhouse. The Doller forms the southern boundary of the municipality of Schweighouse -Thann.

  • Birthplace of Theodor Graf Waldner friend of Stone, ( born November 27, 1786 in Schweighouse (German: Schweighausen ) at Thann in Alsace, † 1864); German - French aristocrat and military, lord of the manor to Weinheim and Limburgerhof. The Waldner of Freundstein are an old established Alsatian nobility. My friend ruined ancestral castle of stone at Goldbach, the highest castle in Alsace, is still owned by the family.

The extinct Castle of Schweighouse -Thann

The attachment was from the 14th century and was used by the family hack Schweighouse until their extinction. It was then held by the Waldner family used to expand and. At the building was in the years 1569-1571, as well as built in 1626-1628 and 1715. During the French Revolution in 1801 and later again in 1837 the buildings were partially destroyed. The last traces were lost during the First World War 1914-1918.
