The Swiss magazine was founded in 1911 under the name Swiss Illustrated Newspaper ( SIZ ). Since issue No. 37 of 6 September 1965, she only called Swiss Illustrated. In the early years, historical and political issues were more present than it is today, where it needs to be rather counted for tabloids. The transformation from ailing, loss- weekly paper to the successful People magazine took place in the 1990s under the former editorial director Peter Roth Buhler.

Since 1921 is produced with L' illustré the counterpart for the Romandie.
