The Swiss Hound is one of the FCI (No. 60, Gr. 6, sec 1) recognized breed of dog from Switzerland.

Origin and History

In 1900, a smaller, supposedly better type for the smaller areas was created from medium-sized Swiss running dogs by cross-breeding and selection, the Hound was called. In appearance he still corresponded to the larger ancestors, but was smaller and in proportion to the size longer. 1905, the Swiss Hound Club ( SNLC ) was founded.

Description

The Swiss Hound is a reduced model of the Swiss Hound. The dogs are large up to 43 cm, while longer than high.

Four color varieties were named differently:

• Bernese Hound,
• Jura Hound,
• Lucerne Hound and
• Schwyz Hound

All have in common is the size, head and body shape below the eye line deep and narrow set ears. Laid forward they reach the tip of the nose, are falling folded, of fine texture and finely hairy. The tail is of medium length, well furred, carried slightly falling.

Varieties

Bernese Hound

This variety is bred smooth -haired and rauhaarig, always three colors: white, black and tan. Ground white with large black plates, which can form a mantle or saddle.

Jura Hound

This variety is usually smooth -haired, but also Stockhaarigkeit is approved, preferred is black with tan markings ( Brand) over the eyes, on the cheeks, on the chest and / or runs; or tan with black saddle or mantle

Lucerne Hound

This variety is speckled smooth -haired in white color, black or gray.

Schwyz Hound

Also smooth -haired with the base color white, but with larger yellow-red or yellow- red to orange - red spots. A red coat is permitted.
