Schwendau

Schwendau is a municipality with 1602 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the Zillertal valley and belongs to the district of Schwaz in Tirol ( Austria ). The municipality is located in the judicial district of Zell am Ziller.

Geography

Schwendau is located in the Zillertal, west of the Ziller. The municipal area which spreads on the alluvial fans of several streams, including the hamlets of Postal, Kreuzlau, small Schwendberg, Astegg, Mühlbach, Stockach, Schwendau village and belonging to the district of Schwendau Hippach. The municipality extends from the Ziller up to 2590 m high Hoarbergjoch. The main town Schwendau has developed only after the Second World War.

Schwendau use many facilities in common with the neighboring community Hippach, the two municipal offices are housed in the same building in Schwendau (only 30 meters from the common boundary of the municipality ).

History

Schwendau was first mentioned in 1200 as Swentowe ( clearing in a Au) in a land register of the Archbishopric of Salzburg. On the hill Burgstallschrofen enthroned by the 14th century a castle. Since 1817 Schwendau is a municipality.

The people spoke in a referendum in 2003 against the merger with Hippach.

Economy

Economically important is next to commercial enterprises and the agricultural sector, notably tourism, including the ski Ski Zillertal 3000th A larger proportion of the workforce is out-commuters.

On Sidanbach is the power plant Sidan TIWAG. It was taken in the summer of 1994 in operation and has an engine power of 4.4 MW.

Schwendau is accessible via the Zillertal road and the railway station Ramsau -Hippach the Zillertal Railway.
