Schwetzingen Festival

The Schwetzingen Festival are a modern international festival of classical music, the ( late April to early June ) will be held in the premises of Schwetzingen Castle ( Schwetzingen, Baden North ) since May 24, 1952 increased annually in the spring. Some concerts (mainly church concerts ) take place (cathedral, Holy Trinity Church) and the near Speyer. The Schwetzingen Castle with park and court theater was the summer residence of the Electoral Palatinate elector, who resided in nearby Heidelberg or Mannheim. The now called the Rococo Theatre was built by Nicolas de Pigage and inaugurated on 15 June 1753. After moving the last Elector Karl Theodor in Munich ( beginning of 1778) not only as the residence in Mannheim fell into a deep sleep, but also the summer palace in Schwetzingen. The SWR transfers all concerts on SWR2 and provides a selection of concerts also to other German and international broadcasters. Some events are also recorded by the SWR - TV for broadcast on Arte and 3sat.
