Science and Engineering Research Council

The Science and Engineering Research Council ( SERC ), and 1981 Science Research Council (SRC ), was a British organization that had the responsibility for publicly funded research in areas such as astronomy, biology, biotechnology, space science and particle physics.

SRC was established in 1965 to improve the organization of the non-military research. In particular priorities for government funding under scientific review of the various disciplines should be put away. In 1981 it was renamed the Science and Engineering Research Council ( SERC ) to reflect the increased importance of the engineering sciences.

1994 SERC has been split into Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council ( PPARC ), Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council ( EPSRC ) and Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council ( BBSRC ).
