Scientific Committee on Problems of the Environment

The Scientific Committee on Problems of the Environment (acronym: SCOPE; German Scientific Committee for environmental problems ) was founded in 1969 by the International Council for Science ( ICSU ). The current President is the Argentinian Osvaldo Sala.

The SCOPE is an interdisciplinary committee, which deals with global environmental issues. A worldwide network of natural and social scientists and relevant institutions reviewed scientific evidence on current and potential environmental issues. In 1976 SCOPE wrote a report on behalf of the ICSU, was warned in the front of a strong increase in the carbon dioxide content in the atmosphere and the resulting environmental damage.
