Sclafani Bagni

Sclafani Bagni is a municipality of the province of Palermo in the Italian region Sicily, with 458 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Sclafani Bagni is located 89 km southeast of Palermo, in the southwest of the Parco delle Madonie. The place is built on the rocky summit of a mountain on 813 meters. Two spiers tower over the narrow streets and stairways of Sclafani Bagni. On a the remains of a fort can be seen, on the other the castle.

The inhabitants mainly work in agriculture.

The neighboring municipalities are Alia, Aliminusa, Caccamo, Caltavuturo, Castronovo di Sicilia, Cerda, Monte Belsito, Polizzi Generosa, Scillato, Valledolmo and Vallelunga Pratameno (CL).

History

The village developed in the 14th century around a castle. In 1952 the city the nickname Bagni, because of the thermal springs, which provide sulphurous water.

Attractions

The 1848 -built thermal baths and hot springs is below ( about 350 meters) to the north, near the SS 120, the system is no longer in operation, the building has fallen into disrepair. However, it is in a natural pool directly below the source bathe. The water comes to about 34 degrees Celsius on the surface.
