Sclerotiniaceae

Common Anemonencherling ( Dumontinia tuberosa )

The Sklerotienbecherlingsverwandten ( Sclerotiniaceae ) constitute a family of fungi within the order of Helotiales. Many species of this family are plant pests.

Features

The Sklerotienbecherlingsverwandte are characterized by the sclerotium, a rounded, bulbous or disc- shaped structure from which springs from the fruiting body ( apothecium ). The ascospores are unicellular and hyaline. Anamorphic, forming macroconidia are common. But Anamorphic with microconidia are known. All types also form the 36 kDa protein SSP1, which is responsible for the development of Sklerotiums. For all species it comes to the antibody cross-reacts with SSP antibodies. While the protein is found in all stages of the Sklerotiums and also in the apothecia, the corresponding gene SSP1 is expressed exclusively in the developing Sklerotiumgewebe.

Ecology

Sclerotiniaceae are distributed worldwide. Most species are necrotrophic or opportunistic parasites on a variety of plants. Among them are significant plant pests such as gray mold, Sclerotinia or the Monilia.

System

Herbert Hice Whetzel put the family on for species with stalked apothecia and asci inoperculate that spring either a stromatisierten ie blackened host tissue or a sclerotium. Holst -Jensen and authors separated but by molecular biological studies, the species that stromatisierten the host tissue and put them in the new family Stromabecherverwandte ( Rutstroemiaceae ).

The family of Sklerotienbecherlingsverwandte include the following genera:

  • Botryotinia: Anamorphic Botrytis
  • Stromabecherlinge ( Ciboria )
  • Ciborinia
  • Coprotinia
  • Anemones cup warmers ( Dumontinia )
  • Tufts cup warmers ( Encoelia )
  • Grovesinia
  • Fruchtbecherchen ( Monilinia ): anamorph Monilia
  • Sklerotienbecherrasen ( Myriosclerotinia )
  • Ovulinia
  • Pyenopeziza
  • Sklerotienbecherlinge ( Sclerotinia )
  • Stromabecherchen ( Stromatinia )
  • Valdensinia

The genera Stromabecher ( Rutstroemia ) Stromakelche ( Lanzia ) Poculum, Verpatinia and certain types of brown Porst Roma fungi ( Lambert Ella ) are assigned to the Stromabecherverwandten.
