Scombroidei

The traditional subordination of the mackerel -like ( Scombridae ) was counted among the Perciformes ( Perciformes ), but has now been found to be not monophyletic.

All mackerel -like living pelagic, are fast swimmers, and have with their torpedo - or spindle-shaped body the ideal fish shape. Your spine is heavily ossified because of the strong stress. Thoracic, abdominal and dorsal fins can be placed in shallow depressions. Scales are absent or small.

In three lines in the Thunnini wherein Latticed mackerel, swordfish, and in a type -like endotherm is independently formed, with the former to increase the temperature of the whole body, while the other relates to the endotherm only brain and eyes.

System

Nelson indicates six extant families with 46 genera and about 147 species. The swordfish is the sister species of the subjects and Marlins, and is sometimes combined with the rank of a subfamily with them.

  • Barracuda ( Sphyraenidae )
  • Swordfish ( Xiphiidae )
  • Subjects and Marlins ( istiophoridae )
  • Snake mackerel ( Gempylidae )
  • Hair tails ( Trichiuridae )
  • Mackerels and tunas ( Scombridae )

In fact, the Scombroidei consist of two distinct clades, which are not particularly closely related to each other and by some families that are associated with the subordination Percoidei clearly separated. The relationships illustrate the following diagrams:

Barracuda ( Sphyraenidae )

Swordfish ( Xiphiidae )

Subjects and Marlins ( istiophoridae )

Blue Fish ( Pomatomidae )

Black mackerel ( Scombrolabracidae )

Snake mackerel ( Gempylidae ) hair tails ( Trichiuridae )

Mackerels and tunas ( Scombridae )
