Scorer

The Scorer is the Punkteaufschreiber in cricket.

The officially appointed scorer has the task of guiding the course and result lists a game. He noted, all runs and wickets, which are achieved, and the number of overs, the one bowler has thrown. In all professional games two scorers are used according to the rules, each team will have one. Therefore, in a test series, a scorer is one of the accompanying officials of the Away Team.

The scorer does not make their own decisions, but only documented the progress and the decisions of the umpires in the lists. In cases of doubt, this signal by special characters that are specified in the rules, the scorer of their decision. This applies in particular to the allocation of the Tools.

The data held by the scorer regularly stuck in a so-called scorecard. This is a highly elaborate form that makes it possible to capture all the data of an inning on a leaf. Using the scorecard, it is now possible to reconstruct a game in detail. The use of IT is done at best supportive in order to keep the press and online media to date.

Most of the scorer is also responsible for all tasks related to the statistics. The better-known scorers are therefore almost invariably also active in this area. Inform in particular the media during a match on all of the latest statistical data.

The world's most famous scorer was Bill Frindall, who was from 1966 until his death in 2009 scorer in all Test matches in England and the most test matches of the English team abroad. He was particularly true for the BBC in the live broadcast of the test matches on the radio ( Test Match Special) worked. He has been nicknamed "the Bearded Wonder " (engl.: the bearded wonder ) because he is able to perform a perfect scorecards, and at the same time to determine within a very short time even completely obscure statistics and data, which he then also repeatedly introduced in the current radio report.

Umpires and Scorers were organized until 2007 together in the " Association of Cricket Umpires and Scorers ", founded 1953 ( ACU & S), the scorers were, however, until some years later. The ACU & S was dissolved by decision of its members in December 2007 and combined with the established in 2008, "ECB Association of Cricket Officials " (ECB ACO ).
