Scotland County (North Carolina)

Scotland County is a county located in the state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Laurinburg, which was named after the family McLaurin, early settlers in this area.

Geography

The County is located in southern North Carolina, adjacent to South Carolina and has an area of 830 square kilometers, of which 4 square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Hoke County, Robeson County and Richmond County.

Scotland County is divided into four townships: Laurel Hill, Spring Hill, Stewartville and Williamson.

History

Scotland County was formed in 1899 from parts of Richmond County. It was named by Scottish immigrants to their homeland Scotland.
