Scott Brooks

Scott Brooks ( born July 31, 1965 in French Camp ( California)) is an American basketball coach. Than 1.80 m great point guard Brooks spent ten years as a player in the NBA before embarking on a career as a coach. Since the 2008/ 09 season he has been head coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder, 2010, he won election to the coach of the year.

Playing career

Brooks first played one year for the team at Texas Christian University and then one season at the small Community College San Joaquin Delta College in California. He spent his third and fourth year of college at the University of California, Irvine, where he per game on average scored 23.8 points in the final year. In 2001, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the University.

After it had selected a club in the NBA NBA Draft 1987, Brooks joined the trained by Bill Musselman Albany Patroons in the Continental Basketball Association ( CBA). The Patroons won the champion's title and Brooks was the All- Rookie team, so one of the five best freshmen selected. He then played briefly for the Fresno Flames of the World Basketball League before 1988 got his first NBA contract with the Philadelphia 76ers. In the first season was 1.80 m wide Brooks there second point guard behind its current assistant coach Maurice Cheeks.

A total of ten seasons was Brooks as a backup point guard - only 7 of his 680 games in the regular season, he played from the beginning - in the NBA actively followed the Sixers the Minnesota Timberwolves (1990-1992), Houston Rockets (1992-1995 ), Dallas Mavericks (1995-1996), New York Knicks (1996-1997) and the Cleveland Cavaliers (1997-1998). The biggest success was winning the championship with the Rockets in the 1993/94 season, but Brooks was only in 5 of the 23 playoff games for use.

Coaching career

In the 2000 /01 season was Brooks player and also assistant coach of the Los Angeles Stars in the ABA. The following season he appeared in the ABA as the head coach at the Southern California Surf and led the team to a season score of 23 victories in 14 defeats.

After stints as an assistant coach with the Denver Nuggets (2003-2006) and Sacramento Kings (2006-2007) Brooks was founded in 2007 assistant coach PJ Carlesimo of at the Seattle SuperSonics. In the 2008/ 09 season started the newly relocated to Oklahoma City franchise with only one win from 13 games, so coach Carlesimo was fired. Brooks took over as interim coach and led the Thunder, in the meantime even a score of 3 to 29 showed, with 22 wins against 47 defeats, to a season record of 23 59

In the following season, the first full season under his guidance, the team reached 50 wins in 32 defeats eighth place in the Western Conference, and thus a place in the playoffs. The increase of 27 wins compared to the previous season was the eighth best such performance increase in the history of the NBA. To have formed a playoff participant from the team last year still far severed, Brooks brought the award as a coach of the year. The Off in the playoffs came in the first round against the Los Angeles Lakers, where Oklahoma City defeated future champion with 2:4.

The season 2010/11 ended the Oklahoma City Thunder with a score of 55 to 27 on the fourth place in the Western Conference. In the playoffs, the team was 4-1 against the Denver Nuggets and 4:3 against the Memphis Grizzlies by before it was eliminated with 1:4 in the Conference Finals against the eventual champion Dallas Mavericks.

In the 2011/12 season Brooks was appointed as coach of the Western Conference at that time cited by ligand Oklahoma City Thunder for the NBA All-Star Game in 2012 to coach the West menu.
