Scott County (Mississippi)

The Scott County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Forest. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The County is located just south of the geographic center of Mississippi and has an area of 1581 square kilometers, of which three square miles are water. It is bordered by the following counties:

History

The Scott County was formed on December 23, 1833 from parts of the Choctaw country. It was named after Abram M. Scott (1785-1833), a governor of Mississippi ( 1832-1833 ).

According to the census in 2000, lived in Scott County 28,423 people in 10,183 households and 7,535 families. The population density was 18 people per square kilometer.
