Scott Gomez

Scott Carlos Gomez ( born December 23, 1979 in Anchorage, Alaska ) is an American professional ice hockey player with Mexican and Columbian ancestors, standing since July 2013 with the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League contract.

Career

Gomez played during his junior time in the Western Hockey League with the Tri -City Americans. He was pulled in the NHL Entry Draft in 1998 in the first round as the 27th by the New Jersey Devils. He was the first Latino has ever been drafted in the NHL and he also became the first Latino, who played in the NHL. He stayed another year in Tri- City and played in 1998 and 1999 for the U.S. Junior National Team.

From the season 1999/2000 played Gomez in the NHL for the New Jersey Devils and impressed the league in his first season with 70 points in 82 games, a value had reached the far, no rookie at the Devils. As the best rookie of the season, he won the Calder Memorial Trophy and was chosen together with Simon Gagne and Mike York from NHL All- Rookie Team. With this outstanding performance, he also had his share of the profits of the Stanley Cup. Gomez remained at a high level, but had a hard time on the achievements in his rookie season to join. In the season 2002/ 03 he won with the Devils their second Stanley Cup. The 70 points from his first season he only reached again in the season 2003/04.

With the U.S. national team, he played at the Ice Hockey World Championship 2004. Strike season 2004/ 05 he spent at the Alaska Aces in the ECHL, where he was selected as the top scorer for the MVP of the league.

For the 2005/06 season he returned strongly and played his best season in which he scored 84 points scorer. In the regular season 2006/ 07 he was unable to match the performance of the previous year, but in the playoffs he was the best player of his team with 14 points in eleven games.

In summer 2007, he signed a contract with the New York Rangers. There, he won a regular place immediately and shot in the 2007/ 08 season in 81 games 16 goals, 54 assists and had reached 70 points. A year later he was one of the best scorers of the Rangers. On 30 June 2009, he was transferred to the Montréal Canadiens. After completion of the NHL lockout in January 2013 Gomez signed a contract with the San Jose Sharks. For the 2013/14 season of Americans has been contracted by the Florida Panthers.

With the U.S. national team, he played at the Olympic Winter Games 2006 in Turin.

His father is Mexican- American and his mother Columbian -American.
