Scott Howson

Scott Howson ( born April 9, 1960 in Toronto, Ontario ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player and functionary. From 2007 to 2013 he worked as general manager of the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League.

Career

Scott Howson began his career as a hockey player with the Kingston Canadians, where he in the Canadian Junior Football League Ontario Hockey Association and later the next League Ontario Hockey League was active from 1978 to 1981. Then the attacker received on 25 August 1981 as a free agent contract with the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League.

First, he ran in the 1981/82 season but for the Toledo Goal Diggers in the International Hockey League, with which he won the Turner Cup. As best rookie got the Canadians the Garry F. Longman Memorial Trophy, as he had a total of 139 scorer points, including 67 goals, in 83 games decisive role in the success of his team. In parallel, he came to eight appearances for the Indianapolis Checkers of the Central Hockey League, for which he was only on the ice from 1982 to 1984. In the summer of 1984, the New York Islanders invoked the right-handed shooters in their NHL team for which in 18 games, scoring five goals in the next two years and had three assists. Most of the time he spent, however, in their farm team in the American Hockey League, the Springfield Indians. Following the 1985/86 season he finished with only 26 years already his active career.

After the End of career as a hockey player Howson worked as general manager for the farm team of the Edmonton Oilers of the American Hockey League, the Cape Breton Oilers and Hamilton Bulldogs. From 2002 to 2007 he was employed as an assistant GM in Edmonton's NHL team. He then took on 15 June 2007 the post of general manager at League rivals the Oilers, Columbus Blue Jackets at. After just one play-off participation in five seasons Howson was released on February 12, 2013 from his duties as general manager of the franchise.
