Scott Macartney

Scott Macartney ( born January 19, 1978 in Seattle, Washington ) is a former American alpine skier.

Biography

His first international success celebrated Macartney at the Junior World Cup 1998 in France Megeve, when he was third in downhill skiing. As of November 1999, he started in the World Cup. He took part in the 2002 Winter Olympics and was 25th in the downhill and 29th in super -G. At the Olympic Winter Games 2006, he reached seventh place in the Super G, 15th place in the downhill and 16th in super combined. In his two World Cup appearances in 2005 and 2007 in Bormio in Åre a 28th rank in the Super- G was his best result. The best World Cup result of his career he reached on 29 January 2006, when he surprisingly went in the World Cup Super -G in Garmisch -Partenkirchen to second place. A third place followed on 15 December 2007 in the downhill on the Saslong in Val Gardena.

On 19 January 2008 Macartney came in the downhill on the Streif in Kitzbühel at a speed above 140 km / h heavy crash and suffered a traumatic brain injury. He survived the fall without bone injury and was able to leave after three days the hospital towards Salt Lake City. A year later Macartney crashed again in Wengen and pulled an injury in his left knee; also this season had to end the Americans early on. After the 2009/10 season Macartney announced his retirement from ski racing.
