Scottish Natural Heritage

The Scottish Natural Heritage, in Scots Gaelic also Dualchas Nàdair na h- Alba, is an authority that is responsible for the receipt of Scotland's natural heritage. The focus of the activities is the preservation of the diversity of Scottish nature. The Authority advises the Scottish Government and mandated measures on its behalf in the interest of nature conservation. This includes the management of protected areas ( Site of Special Scientific Interest ). The Scottish Natural Heritage has 800 employees and is represented in many country areas of Scotland with offices. The headquarters was moved 2003/2004 from Edinburgh to Inverness.

The Scottish Natural Heritage today include islands such as North Rona, which have a significant stock of gray seals and harbor seals. She was also involved in the killing introduced in the Outer Hebrides Hedgehog, as these impacted there very negative effect on the breeding populations of Alpine beach runners, ringed plover and redshank.
