Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role

The Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actress is one of the awards, which are annually awarded in the United States by the Screen Actors Guild, a union of actors. It is aimed at actresses who have done an outstanding performance in a leading role in a feature film. The category was created in 1995. The winners will be chosen in a secret ballot by the full members of the union.

History and Records

During the last 20 years, the Screen Actors Guild has awarded a total of 20 Awards in the category Best Actress in 20 different actors. The first winner was Jodie Foster, who was honored at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in 1995 for her role as Nell Kellty in Nell. The last winner was previously Cate Blanchard, who was honored for her role as Jeanette " Jasmine " in Francis Blue Jasmine at the Screen Actors Guild Awards 2014.

So far (as of 2014) voted the winner of this award in only six cases not with the later Oscar-winning match. These were Jodie Foster in 1995 for her role in Nell, Annette Bening in 2000 for American Beauty, Renee Zellweger 2002 Chicago, Julie Christie 2008 for Away From Her, Meryl Streep for Doubt in 2009 and Viola Davis for The Help. Oldest winner at 66 years, the Briton Julie Christie was 2008 ( on their side ); oldest nominated actress with 79 years in 2014 her compatriot Judi Dench ( Philomena ). Recent winner with 22 years was 2013, the subsequent Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence ( Silver Linings ); youngest nominee at age 16 in 2004, the US-American Evan Rachel Wood ( Thirteen ).
