Screen magnifier

The software magnifier is a software engineering tool for distance setting in digital photography.

For digital cameras in Live View mode are displayed on the monitor or electronic viewfinder usually much less pixels than are available from the image sensor. Therefore it can not be brought into focus as precisely as desired manually easily with their help. The firmware of the camera can be a central or selectable part of the whole image on the monitor or enlarged in the electronic viewfinder. The user can make a precise manual focusing using the visual sharpness impression on a larger and more detailed and colorful image.

Magnifier

A similar approach can be found at the screen magnifier for visually impaired computer users, also in the image sections are shown enlarged on the computer monitor. Here, however, no higher image sharpness is achieved since the pixels which have all be perceived separately also unmagnified merely by row and column multiplications be enlarged, with normal sight no information gain is achieved. Most of the area is displayed around the pointer is increased so that the user can work on the entire page.
