Screw#Differentiation between bolt and screw

A bolt is a short cylindrical connecting member as a machine element.

In contrast to the pin, a bolt is usually easily removed, that is used with a clearance fit. It is used mainly when only lateral load ( shear) is. Its additional form elements head, cross- hole ( for pins ), short thread ( for nuts) or transverse groove ( for Achshalter ) serve only to avoid losing by a positive connection between him and the parts to be joined.

Bolts are widely used for fast and often break connections without axial load instead of screws, for example in the transport industry to attach containers to the closing of the skid planks of trucks or the like.

Bolts compounds are in principle rotatable may thus, for example, be part of a rotational joint.

Bolts 22340 22341 ( with head ) and in Germany by DIN standardized according to the standards EN ( without head ) and EN 1445 ( with head and threaded portion ).
