Scrim (lighting)

In the photograph is meant by a diffuser a tool to make hard direct light more soft and reduce extreme light and shadow contrasts and distracting reflections. A diffuser for a flash ( " scrim " ) causes the flash light is scattered (see: Flash methods).

Diffusers out of white, semi - translucent material located in front of each light trough, also white screens, plexiglass or glass, nylon cloth, or even waxed paper, it will be often used. In enlargers diffusers are used to distribute the filtered from the color head light evenly over the entire film surface.
