The Hansatsu (Japanese藩 札, dt " certificates of Han" ) was a Japanese form of paper money during the Edo period. On the minting of coins, the Tokugawa shogunate had the monopoly, so the Daimyo, and later cities, temples and nobles made ​​do at the imperial court in Kyoto with the issuance of certificates. The bills usually had an equivalent value in gold, silver or copper coins, there were also changes on rice, sake or oil.
