Script supervisor

Script / Continuity is a professional film and television industry, which is used in fiction formats ( movies, TV series, TV movies, daily soaps ) and belongs to the Department Director. Origin

The job of a Script / Continuity developed in Germany from the profession of studio secretary. The studio secretary was responsible for the documentation of the shooting in film studios. Script

The main task of the script is creating reports for the editing room and for the production office. Preparation

Before filming began, the continuity has a preparation period in which read the script and " set " is. Term " set " is meant to highlight connections in the script and supplement. During the filming

During the filming of the continuity monitors the movement and text connections of the actors and the plot axis. The connections are noted and complemented in the established script. Movement connections: the action and motion of an actor in a scene ( transitions, gestures, etc.) are noted by the continuity in his furnished screenplay. In addition, the continuity monitors the completeness of the dialogues in the scene, noting any discrepancies or missing information.

Axis of action: To the various settings that are rotated from a scene cut, it requires the visual continuity of the action. This is caused by the associated camera positions according to the movements that occur within a scene, the so-called axis of action is directed. A camera positioned such that the resultant adjustment does not see the plot of the same direction as in the other settings of the scene that produces a Achssprung, and the continuity is interrupted. Sometimes axes are deliberately ignored and their jump used as a stylistic device. The director and the cameraman set the camera positions and the setting for a scene. This continuity ensures that the axis of action is maintained and that all the specified settings of a scene can be rotated.

During the filming of the continuity also determines the rotation stop. When a movie or series episode is too long or too short, this can have the consequence that scenes deleted, extended or even new scenes are filmed.
